Gifts for a girl aged 9 or 10 — gift ideas

No time for the whole list? These are our four favourites for a girl aged 9 or 10: the dance and gymnastics ribbon to twirl through the whole room or garden, Het grote CreaChick doeboek 2 full of drawing, crafts and puzzles, Matilda by Roald Dahl to read in one go, and Twister for a party or a rainy afternoon with friends. Four gifts you can’t go wrong with.

A small gift for a girl aged 9 or 10, for the Sinterklaas shoe, for a good school report or for a birthday party. Everything below costs less than ten euros, and every one of them is a gift she’ll be happy with.

With up to 25 euros there’s plenty of choice for a lovely gift: an exciting board game, a thick book, a craft kit or something to take outside. Everything below has been picked for a girl aged 9 or 10, and there’s a surprise in there for anyone who doesn’t know her wishes.

Making jewellery, embroidery, modelling clay or a pixel artwork: around nine or ten, she makes something she’s proud of, and that’s what makes a creative gift so lovely to give. Pipoos has a huge range of craft supplies and creative sets for every level. Also see our blogs on lovely drawing supplies for children and the best drawing books for children.

Wonderfully relaxing for a rainy afternoon. Jigsaws of 100 to 300 pieces are just right for this age: not too easy, but done in one afternoon — and a 3D logic puzzle is for the girl who loves a challenge. Lotana has a huge collection of jigsaws and logic games.

A friendship book or diary is and remains a classic: a keepsake of the school years full of questionnaires, favourite foods, secret hobbies and stickers. Friends fill in the fun questions together, and years later she’ll proudly read it back.

A first piece of jewellery of her own is a small gift with a big effect at this age: a bracelet with a heart, steel stud earrings she can wear all day, or a charm bracelet with her own initial. All under ten euros, and made of surgical steel, so suitable for sensitive ears too. Crazy Factory has plenty more jewellery for children.

At this age she reads well on her own and devours funny, exciting and adventurous stories and series. Whether she loves animals, friendship, fantasy or adventure, there’s a book here for a girl of 9 or 10 — and a beautiful book lasts a long time. (Most are Dutch editions.)

Hugely popular in the playground! Hobby horsing is the combination of sport, hobby and imaginative play. At Pipoos she makes her own unique hobby horse: the crafting is at least as much fun as the playing, and with a jump added the course in the garden or hallway is complete. Want to make one yourself? Our article on making your own hobby horse lists all the parts, with handy crafting tips.

At this age being outside gets even better with her own things: a scooter that comes along to school every day, a ribbon to practise graceful moves with, or a first plant of her own to grow. Gifts for the playground, the garden and the holidays.

A first camera or gadget of her own is a real showstopper at this age: photos of her friends that roll straight out of the camera and end up on her bedroom wall or in a friendship book.

Board games and card games are the gift for cosy moments with friends or family. Quick card games explained in five minutes, a party game to howl with laughter at, and a classic for a long afternoon of games: all picked for a girl of 9 or 10. The full range is at Lotana and 999 Games.

LEGO has been the gift that makes children happy for generations, and at this age it’s the sets you put on display once built: flowers, animals, a postcard or a figure from her favourite film. Browse the full range in the LEGO Shop.
