Gifts for a girl aged 7 or 8 — gift ideas

No time for the whole list? These are our four favourites for a girl aged 7 or 8: the LEGO Magical Unicorn for her bedroom, the card game Beverbende that you learn in five minutes, the CreaChick colouring book for an afternoon on the sofa, and the bracelet-making kit that has been the most chosen card on this page for years.

A small gift for a 7 or 8-year-old, for the Sinterklaas shoe, for a good school report or for a birthday party. Everything below costs less than ten euros.

With up to 25 euros there’s plenty of choice: a craft kit, a book from a series, a game or something to take outside. Everything below has been picked for a girl aged 7 or 8.

Drawing, colouring and crafts stay favourites at this age: a CreaChick colouring or sketch book, a cat to cast and paint yourself, FIMO modelling clay in pink shades, horse ironing beads or a complete colouring and drawing set. Pipoos has plenty more. Also see our blogs on lovely drawing supplies for children and the best drawing books for children.

Making jewellery is a real hit around 7 or 8: threading beads, choosing charms, a bracelet for her best friend. A complete set with bracelets and earrings, a jewellery studio with horses, Shrinkies that shrink in the oven or a book full of patterns to copy.

LEGO has been the gift that makes children happy for generations. The LEGO Friends series is hugely popular with girls: go on a camper-van adventure with friends, build the friends’ treehouse or discover Liann’s house and the Heartlake City fashion show. For animal lovers, the horse and foal trailer and the tropical toucan are beautiful sets, and the Magical Unicorn is a real eye-catcher. Browse the full range in the LEGO Shop.

From beautiful jigsaws to challenging logic games. Ravensburger’s Unicorns on the Beach and the holographic Jungle Paradise from Crocodile Creek are perfect for puzzle fans, the SmartGames Flippin’ Dolphins, Cats & Boxes and IQ Mini are brain teasers for on the go, and the Squishmallows puzzle is for the fan. A large collection at Lotana.

At this age she develops her own taste, and then something to wear is a gift that comes along every day: a bracelet or necklace, cheerful hair clips and scrunchies, a little bag or purse for her first pocket money, or a watch to learn to tell the time herself. Small, affordable gifts she’ll want to take to school straight away.

Books full of fascinating facts, beautiful illustrations and surprising trivia. Het allermooiste boek over paarden (the most beautiful book about horses) is for the horse lovers, Het dikke boek van alle bijzondere dieren is full of surprising facts about remarkable animals, and an activity book from De waanzinnige boomhut (The Treehouse series) or Superjuffie keeps her busy for an afternoon.

At 7 and 8 she reads her first real books herself, while being read to stays lovely. Series work best: Superjuffie and Agent en Boef are funny enough to laugh at together, Een veulen op de manege is for the horse-mad girls, and De weg naar terug is a beautiful book to read together, exciting and sometimes very funny. (These are Dutch books.) Does your child love books with horses as the main characters? Our horse blog has a large section with the best pony books. Is she still in groep 3? A friendship book is a lovely keepsake of the school years and has been hugely popular with girls for years. From the horse friendship book to Disney Frozen and Princesses: she fills in the fun questions together with her friends. Invulboekjes.nl has a large range of friendship books for every taste. Or choose a diary with a lock where she can keep all her secrets.

Hugely popular with girls! Hobby horsing is the ideal combination of sport, hobby and imaginative play. At Pipoos you’ll find a luxury hobby horse (such as the Dartmoor pony or Connemara), a halter and a jump to leap over. Want to make one yourself? Our article on making your own hobby horse lists all the parts and has handy crafting tips.

Card games are hugely popular with girls of 7 and 8: quick to learn and always fun. Dobble, Beverbende and Halli Galli are the classics you learn in five minutes, and parents are just as keen to play Skyjo. Lotana and 999 Games have a huge range of games for every budget.

Girls of 7 and 8 want to get outside too: a light-up skipping rope, a hula hoop or a bouncy ball that shoots into the air. Small gifts that come in handy in every playground and on every campsite.

A fun day out together is a treat in itself: you experience something special and make memories to talk about for ages. A few ideas:
