Dinosaur gifts & toys — the best dino gift ideas
The best dinosaur gifts and dinosaur toys for children (ages 3–7): figures, dig kits, puzzles, books, cuddly toys, LEGO and more.
By Sonja ·
How lovely that you’re looking for a dinosaur gift! 🦖 Almost every child goes through a wonderful dinosaur phase at some point — and dinosaurs have been hugely popular for years, especially with children of about 3 to 7. So a dinosaur gift is usually a hit with a real fan.
And a dinosaur gift is so much more than a plastic T. rex: think realistic dinosaur toys such as figures, exciting dig kits, puzzles, cuddly toys, books full of facts and LEGO. A fan of the films? We have separate sections with Jurassic World gifts and games. We also have tips for cheerful dinosaur school things and fun bits for a real dinosaur party. Below you’ll find our favourites, sorted by type — with an overview by age so you can quickly find something that fits.
Which dinosaur gift suits which age?
Every child is different, but this is a handy guide. Above all, choose by interest — one dinosaur fan would rather play, another wants to know all the names and facts.
Toddlers (1–3)
Keep it sturdy and simple: big, soft or wooden dinosaur figures, a first dinosaur puzzle with big pieces, a cuddly toy or a cheerful book to read aloud. Make the noises together and name the dinosaurs.
Young children (3–5)
The dinosaur age! Figures and play sets to act out stories with, a dinosaur dig kit, stickers and craft things, and read-aloud books with a bit more story. Fun too: dinosaur school things for nursery or the infant class.
Early school years (6–8)
Now come the facts! Thick dinosaur fact books, a more challenging dig or fossil kit, bigger puzzles and LEGO Jurassic World. Children this age often know more dinosaur names than you do — feel free to challenge them.
For the true fan (8+)
Collectible figures, the LEGO Jurassic World video game (Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PlayStation), an impressive LEGO dinosaur or a beautiful reference book full of dinosaur facts. For those for whom dinosaurs aren’t just a phase but a lasting passion!

Frequently asked questions
What is a good dinosaur gift for a child?+
A dinosaur gift usually goes down well with dinosaur fans. Think of realistic figures or a play set, a dig kit to chisel out a fossil yourself, a dinosaur puzzle, a cuddly toy or a book full of dinosaur facts. Tip: choose something that suits the age — figures and craft sets for young children, fact books and LEGO for older ones.
What age are dinosaur toys for?+
Dinosaur toys are most popular with children of about 3 to 7, but many children stay fans long after. For toddlers (1–3) choose sturdy, big figures and first puzzles; young children (3–5) love play sets and crafts; from about 6, fact books, dig kits and LEGO Jurassic World come into their own.
What do you give a young child who loves dinosaurs?+
For a dinosaur-mad child of 3 to 5, figures and play sets are ideal for acting out stories. Also fun: a dinosaur dig kit, a craft or sticker set, a dinosaur cuddly toy or a beautiful book to read aloud.
What is a good dinosaur gift under €10?+
Definitely possible! Think of a single figure, a dig kit, a dinosaur puzzle, a craft or sticker set or a book to read aloud. Shops like HEMA and De Grote Speelgoedwinkel have plenty of lovely dinosaur gifts for a small budget.
Which dinosaur book is good for children?+
That depends on the age. For the youngest, cheerful read-aloud books are ideal, while children from about 6 love thick fact books or a real dinosaur encyclopaedia full of facts about the different dinosaurs. Choose a book that suits their reading level and interests — our books section above has several options.
